Impossible to miss: the fourth season of Bridgerton was released on January 29. The plot, this time focused on the character of Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and the mysterious Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), combines romance, drama, plots, and rumors spread by Lady Whistledown... all set in an atmosphere conducive to elegance and romance.
Bridgerton-themed weddings have been on the rise since the series premiered, as its entire aesthetic is a source of inspiration for couples-to-be: what if we told you that such a wedding at Château de Poudenas is possible?
In this article, we give you the keys to organizing an amazing Bridgerton wedding at the Château de Poudenas.
The façade: recreating a symbol as iconic as the front of the Bridgerton house
The upper room: bright and romantic for the bride's preparations
The living room: for a couple's photoshoot in Bridgerton colors
The park: an 18th-century English-style park, perfect for moments full of nature and tranquility
The guard room: for a secular ceremony like Simon and Daphne's
The main courtyard: for the first dance and a dinner under the stars
What is a Bridgerton wedding?
It is important to start by defining what is meant by a Bridgerton-themed wedding: the series takes place during the English Regency era. This is a period in the history of the United Kingdom that occurred from 1811 to 1820 under the reign of George III (this monarch also appears in the series' spin-off about Queen Charlotte, an iconic character in the Bridgerton saga).
To find the visual inspirations of this era, romantically reimagined by the series, you can use the term "regency core" on websites like Pinterest: you will then understand the characteristics that make the beauty of this aesthetic and the Bridgerton series!
Refined, sophisticated decor
Opulence and extravagance
Pastel colors
Abundant flowers
Many blog posts have been created to help you fine-tune your decor, stationery, outfits, and more to fit the Bridgerton theme: here are a few of them.
However, they do not provide specific addresses of places.
The Château de Poudenas has several assets that can help you recreate an atmosphere worthy of the series: its flexible spaces each have their own advantages and will remind you of the English settings seen on Netflix.
On each space, two photos taken from the Bridgerton series and two photos of the Château de Poudenas. Can you tell them apart?
1) The façade: recreating a symbol as iconic as the front of the Bridgerton house
What could be more iconic than the Bridgerton mansion? Most of the scenes set there are accompanied by a shot of its red brick facade decorated with ivy and wisteria. It is not the only beautiful home in the series: for the English high society of the 19th century, it was common to own a grand house, whether in the countryside or in the heart of London, whose facade reflected the status of its occupants.
In Poudenas, no Georgian-style manor or wisteria, but a Renaissance-style façade just as grand and recognizable among thousands: the perfect place for elegant photos where you can pose as a duke, marquis, or count owning a grand house.
2) The upper room: bright and romantic for the bride's preparations
In the Bridgerton series, many scenes of doubt, preparations, and confessions take place in a bedroom. Ethereal, delicate, and sumptuous, these rooms are a refuge for the series' protagonists. For your wedding, offer your bride a similar retreat by choosing to have her preparations in the upper room, our bridal suite. Its high ceiling, curtains made of delicate fabrics, pastel and terracotta colors, impressive wardrobe, and above all its large freestanding mirror make it a place full of softness and calm, the perfect spot to gather before the action of the big day.
3) The bureau : the groom's lair, ideal for his preparations
Notice how the introspective scenes of the male characters in the Bridgerton series often take place in darker, more enclosed spaces than the others: a library, a drawing studio, a private men’s club... It's a radically different atmosphere! At Château de Poudenas, we have a room in this style: the bureau, also called the small library. Portraits, old books, a grand fireplace, ebony furniture, and red tapestries... Everything is there to give a masculine tone and to allow the groom's preparations in a unique setting.
4) Stairs, perfect spots for first looks
The staircase is the quintessential symbol of romance, very often used in art as a place for all kinds of emotions: a place for discovering a character, a place for a frantic escape, a place for a fall (and very often rescue), or even a place for a meeting between two characters. Bridgerton is no exception when it comes to the use of the staircase: the setting for one of the series’ first scenes, Daphne’s memorable arrival at the ball, the meeting between Benedict and Sophie... at the castle, you have a choice of staircases. The iconic horseshoe staircase on the south facade, and the stone staircase located at the exit of the guardroom, more hidden. Use them to create your first looks, intimate moments forever etched in your memories.
5) The living room: for a couple's photoshoot in Bridgerton colors
In the Netflix series, living rooms are places for conversations and visits… often unexpected and related to the arrival of suitors. In pastel tones—bluish, yellow, white, and cream—the living rooms often feature large windows, grand fireplaces, family paintings, and elegant pieces of furniture made of fine wood and satin-like materials.
In Poudenas, we have one particular room that fits this description, which we aptly call "the living room." Its pastel yellow walls and large French doors opening onto the terrace bring light into the space and give it unmatched charm. On the walls, paintings of the ancestors of the Nadaillac family, who still own the castle, watch over the place. The chandelier, fireplace, as well as the period armchairs and sofas complete this scene straight out of an episode of Bridgerton, making it the ideal spot for your couple photoshoots.
6) The arcades: anchoring photos in history
Give a second frame to your photos and make them more dramatic by choosing to pose under the castle's arches. In the series Bridgerton, this artistic choice is also made to give depth to a scene and to the characters in it. You too, be the main characters of a romance that is uniquely yours!
7) The park: an 18th-century English-style park, perfect for moments full of nature and tranquility
The characters in the Netflix series Bridgerton spend a large part of their time outdoors, whether it's visiting each other, enjoying a game of croquet, going on a hunt, or even engaging in a duel...
In Poudenas, we are fortunate to also have a little bit of England through our park of about fifteen hectares: like the characters in the series, enjoy numerous outdoor activities! We have a putting green for golfers, a tennis court, as well as paths to walk in the heart of nature.
A gigantic emerald setting, the boundaries between the castle grounds and the wild nature of the Gascony hills blur, because our park is in the English style: you can't really see its edges and it mimics wild nature, unlike French gardens which are all about geometry and order. It is also the perfect spot for a couple's photoshoot in the heart of nature!
8) The guard room: for a secular ceremony like Simon and Daphne's
Simon and Daphne's wedding in Season 1 of Bridgerton is a key event in the storyline, and the checkerboard pattern seems to accompany their important moments... You too can create a ceremony as beautiful as theirs! To do this, choose the guard room: its checkerboard floor, its magnificent fireplace... Everything is there to create a stunning couple photoshoot or an exceptional secular ceremony.
9) The main courtyard: for the first dance and a dinner under the stars
Nothing is more romantic than a moment together under the stars, especially for a first dance. Daphne and Simon did it in season 1, so why not you? Set up a stage in the main courtyard and, like this high-society English couple, waltz together. The honor courtyard is also the perfect place to dine under the stars, whether they are in the sky or just above your head: we can hang 'guinguette' string lights to create a magical atmosphere, straight out of a fairy tale... Complete your tables with candles, candelabras, and flowers to enhance your Bridgerton theme.
10) The Billiard: the ultimate dance floor
Generally held in large rooms with polished wooden floors, the balls in the Bridgerton series are the setting for all the romances and interactions between the characters. In the castle, we have the billiard room for you: a room accessible from the main courtyard and the stables, its polished floor allows you to waltz, move, and dance until the end of the night.
